Australian Football League

i went to my first footy game with gav on saturday. the picture's blurry because i took a photo of the picture on my phone. caleb didn't pass me the cable for transferring stuff from phone to laptop.
gav and i got lost looking for the ticket counter - make that the ONLY ticket booth which had any tickets left. the Melbourne Cricket Ground was PACKED (and huge). i was worried we wouldn't get tickets cause they were selling out fast, and gav said that the only tickets we'd probably be able to get wouldn't get us a good view of the game anymore.
see the two aussie guys in the picture? they overheard gav say "argh, i should have gotten the tickets online shouldn't i.."
the next thing that happened was a really big pleasant surprise. the two guys approached us and offerred us two free tickets! funnily enough, one of them supported collingwood and the other, hawthorn - just like gav and i. haha.
it just gets better. we got really good SEATS. we didn't have to stand. and we were right opposite the screen, so we caught every bit of detail that went on on the opposite end of the ground.
collingwood polarises the people in victoria. you either love a collingwood fan or hate a colingwood fan. haha. they have a history of being a champion team or sthg like that. i thnk whatever gav tells me would be biased towards collingwood. anyway, it was an extremely tight game.
did i say it gets better? yeah it does. hawthorn won by just 3 points! woohoo. make that a perfect first game! free tickets, new friends, winning team! steve and i were cheering and high fiving each other throughout the game, the victory made my throat hurt till the next day.

narrative

after a simple birthday celebration for jon lee last night, mandy and i headed off to the k pad where we stayed the night and watched indiana jones' temple of doom. it wasn't till this morning when i woke up that it kinda hit me that it's not gonna be the same going back to kensington (if i ever do) again. that was probably the last time dong and i would be there together.

sounds sad? well, it doesn't have to be really. there is perhaps a tinge of separation-sadness, but really, the things we hold on to from the past are memories that we can still keep wherever we are, and the people we love, we'll see them again. our relationships with those we love grow a different way when we leave, but yknow, if you really love them, it'll definitely grow. so, hey. why the face? (haha reminds me of modern family. phil's understanding of wtf)

gwen's flying off to korea tmr night. tsk. everyone's all over the world.

i bet our next generation's "being in different countries" would be almost the same as "being on different ends of Singapore" for this generation.

the working man (boy, really) trap

someone was talking to me about nice sweet things a working boy can do.
i think girls have this window where they're especially vulnerable to the special treatment from a boy who's working. i hesitate to call him a man, simply because i dont think the mental age is quite that of a man yet. how do i put it. there are some things a real man would and wouldn't do. and when you're not quite there.. let's just call you a boy. usually they're in their early 20s. haha.

so anyway, i think girls have this transition window where you realise that "hey, MAYBE stability is more important than good jokes and showers of gifts."
then when a boy who's got an office job - mmaybe an intern - comes along and isn't quite yet a man, but goes to work like a typical man, then your mind wonders what it is about yourself that's so special that you've got a "man's" attention. and of course he makes you feel special with all the attention.

it's good if he respects you and treats you well and everythng, but yknow, when he takes advantage of the stable image etc - well.. it somehow lures you in, even though your mind tells you it's illogical.

sheesh. sometimes the heart can be so deceptive.

by the way, that's just part of my thought process. huge assumptions and sweeping statements made there which i myself disagree with. i'd just rather refine my business finance knowledge, than refine this thought process. maybe it takes explaining the background stories behind this post for a reader to understand where im coming from. heh. that'll be my little secret.

eggspensive!

i went to camberwell market with joel and mandy yesterday. it was faaan-tastic! :D
i really like flea/art markets.
and after church i went for this blogshop clearance sale with shirley.
the girl running this little business pointed out a rack and said "this rack's 2 for $50, so.. it's really cheap!"
haha.. that was when how different my definition of cheap really stood out.

over the past couple of years, i think my bottomline's been pushed lower and lower.
or perhaps i just want less. (or maybe i'm wanting different things, like food. haha i had a big breakfast today)
not to say that i spend very little (cause right now i'm quite keen on looking for a good bag - which could cost a bit)

while it may come across as a bimbotic thing to blog about what you shop for, i think i'd really just like to post a picture of the scarf i got from the market which i'm (obviously) really happy about. haha :D:D

$1.50. YEAAAHH!

umbrella

ok random title there cause i couldn't think of one. which reminds me - jon lee's been trying to convince me that i look a bit like rihanna. he's even done a comparison photo thing (actually he succeeded with the photo, i secretly think he did a decent job).

i had a very good talk with ys just now. makes me wonder how i've changed this year. i definitely have grown - been tested time and again.

bill johnson said something i find really interesting. if we do not learn how to seek God (not just to make things better) in our problems, how are we gonna expect to seek him when everything's so smooth sailing?

some people look to their fathers and say "that who i wanna be". they can tell you all about their dads and how strong and sacrificial they are. that's when you go "wow. that's exactly what being a father means - raising your child in a way that calls them to be like you without having to explicitly tell them to follow you".

airport nights

feeling: i want to stay up late to do work with someone, anyone.

i'm reminded of how there was one night i felt really in need of someone to be studying beside me as i burnt midnight oil in trinity.

haha i remember thinking "shucks. if only changi airport was in melbourne." and wondering why there was no safe place that was open for me to study at.

i suddenly find myself being cautious and self-conscious of where and who i study with, although truth be told, i personally don't care. perhaps it's just a fear that thngs like that matter to other people and while it's not good to worry about what people think, i think there's a certain extent to which (whether you like it or not) what they think matter.

meh.

a lover's commendation

yknow that feeling of absolute delight when someone you love or esteem highly praises you, or tells you you're doing a good job? that feeling which makes that affirmation or approval a reward in itself, even if nobody else recognises it apart from the two of you.

i wanna know you're the Lover of my soul, the King of kings, the highest High.

time sheet

because it's so hard to find time to meet up with everyone i want to meet up with, it comes back to this really cliche tip: make every second count. i guess to a certain extent, it's like my catch up sessions with tim. i dont do life with him, but whenever i do talk to him, there's always something new to learn or ponder on.

you're not a child, stupid

i guess you could say the grown-up way of dealing with problems is anything but run away, or bash someone up.
