love in the world today

i was just reading posts from friends' blogs.
what really struck me was that half the blogs i visited were about emotional disappointment.
feelings are not reciprocated, hearts are broken and the like.

someone once asked me "Elisa, where do you think you find security?"

"people." i answered after some time, knowing and preparing myself for what she was going to ask next.
"what if they all go away?" she questioned, as i had expected.

that conversation was held at a point in time where i was slightly insecure.

someone ELSE told me and has been reminding me that my security should come from the Lord. God is my comfort. Jesus should me the one i depend on, even for emotional needs. not him.

and i guess a lot of people have yet to learn that depending on one person who is as fallible as they are is not wise.

im still learning to depend on God. it's a constant process i suppose.. constant dependence, constant re-focus on the One who made, loves and saved us.

love them like Jesus

he wore a cap over his thinning white hair.
his sweater was old, and filthy.
he slowly made his way past a couple seated at a table near the bin.
he held a paper bag with one hand, and with the other, he reached into the bin.
what do people take from bins? scraps of paper? plastic bottles?
this old man, he found his next meal - a bowl of golden, starchy, half-eaten noodles someone had casually dumped into the bin.
the eyes of both the guy and the girl were on him.
the girl didn't stare, she didn't dare.
how could one look at such poverty in the surrounding affluence?
how could one look without acknowledging what she was seeing?
and how could one acknowledge without helping?
she shifted her focus from the old man, to her friend, from her friend to the old man. and back again.
"what are you thinking?"
"of getting food for him"
immediately her response was "yes let's get him something! i really don't want him to eat that."
he sat and looked at her. the old man was walking away.
"what! let's get him something to eat!" she urged him.
"what should i get him?"
"Ruby's cafe!"
"i'll get him two sushis"
"yes ok... go quick!"
"i'll be right back." and he left.

St Kilda's

dong and i went to cafe sweethearts at st kilda's for breakfast and it was EXCELLENT!! look at the food and tell me you're not hungry -- sure cannot one!!

at the next table were three gay men. i didnt realise they were gay till dong pointed it out to me. haha. yeah pretty gay.

we went to check out the beach as well, which didn't turn out to be very much because the area we went to looked rather artificial and there was a big bright yellow bulldozer right smack in the middle of nowhere, pretty much spoiling what's left of the scenery. im not even mentioning the huge vulgar tracks it made on the sand.
despite all that, we had a nice slow stroll on the pier in the light drizzle. (man it was icy!)
hmm yeah. today's a good day. time to get some work done!

DONE WITH HOI!

PHEW! yes it feels good to be done with the dreadful History of Ideas essay.

SOMEONE called me from the library after dinner to ask me what books i wanted when he found out that i didn't have enough secondary sources for my essay and lugged 8 books all the wayto palmerston to pass them to me. *happy sigh. i have to say that was an extremely nice thing to do.

for yesterday

i typed up two drafts for a blog yesterday but decided that both of them had too much emotion and was way too personal, not just because it was about a lot of my feelings, but also about a dear friend.

"be meek, be meek" the voice rang in my head.
ok i'll be meek.

jolene: errrrr.. very new! *add guilty look*

hahaha we all burst out laughing.

and hey, i may not have cooked (perhaps this is something to be thankful about) but I DID THE WASHING (with a bit of help from shan).
we had bakkuteh, eggplant and egg+bittergourd.
bkt was good cause they boiled the pork till the fat and smell was nearly gone before cooking it with the herbs etc. healthy bkt :D

lygon starbucks

starbucks on lygon is serving its last customers this sunday.

i remember what it was like making my last drink at starbucks. haha.. it was bitter-sweet, like coffee.

matthew 12:15-45

here's one of the things that struck me at OCF today.

when we hear about God, we are automatically faced with 2 choices. to either follow Jesus, or NOT to follow Jesus. the thing that stood out was the danger of sitting on the fence.

matthew 12:44-45 "Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters"

man, but that's not all. i learnt quite a bit today, and it's probably not the best idea to post it on my blog like that.

miracle

you want to see a miracle?
http://peanutcups.livejournal.com
that's my friend vanessa and i think her being alive and her progress is a true miracle.
just a few months before we didn't even know if she was going to live or die, or stay in a coma forever.

thank you God.
